Why has the founder of the acclaimed PREP programs been removed from the key leadership role he has played for 25 years?
Dr. Manuel Berriozábal,
the visionary founder of the nationally acclaimed and award-winning
Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP), has been removed as its
leader.
UTSA has removed Dr.
Berriozábal as Director of San Antonio PREP; as Coordinator of Tex-PREP,
the Texas-wide PREP program; and as Principal Investigator of Proyecto
Access, the national NASA-sponsored PREP program.
We, the PREP Support
Committee, have sought but been given no reason or cause for Dr.
Berriozábal's removal.
PREP already is suffering the consequences of this damaging action - three of the 14 Texas sites have SHUT DOWN, the Northeast Independent School District has said it will not support the PREP program this summer, and there are indications that others might pull out as well for -funding" reasons. Dr. B has always been able to keep school districts and universities involved even when funding issues rose to the surface. The PREP program is falling apart under the watch of Jude Valdez and Ricardo Romo. Please join us in helping to reverse this harmful action by signing the petition!
