Dr. Manuel P. Berriozabal is a good man. = He deserves better from you!

The respectable action for you to do is to submit = your=20 resignation from the position of President of the University of Texas at = San=20 Antonio.

I suggest this after a year of hoping you would = deal=20 responsibly with Manuel P. Berrioz=EF=BF=BDbal. The statements from = officials at UTSA=20 regarding this matter have been distorted at best. I see many of them as = bogus.=20 I should be knowledgeable in these matters. I have been the second = officer in=20 PREP during the past 18 summers. I should know the operations of PREP. I = have=20 been a temporary employee of PREP for 19 summers. For the last 15 years = my PREP=20 paycheck came from the University of Texas at San Antonio. UTSA = Academic, Legal,=20 and Police officials have never consulted or questioned me in this = matter. I was=20 a UTSA employee last spring and summer when your "alleged" investigation = was=20 occurring. I could have shed the light of day on many of the unfortunate = conclusions that you made regarding PREP. Instead you chose to let your = staff=20 intimidate with threats of termination PREP employees that unfortunately = need=20 the work. You may not have been aware of this behavior. But not knowing = means to=20 me that you should graciously walk away.

In a separate matter regarding tenure issues, you = have put=20 the University of Texas in jeopardy of being censured for the punitive = actions=20 you have taken against Manuel P. Berrioz=EF=BF=BDbal regarding teaching = assignments.=20 Academic faculty everywhere should be appalled by UTSA's behavior in = this=20 matter. This is coming from one that has a very conservative view on = these type=20 issues. I can just imagine the reaction of most faculty members in the = academic=20 mainstream.

The King has no clothes. The health issue is not = appropriate=20 for you to use. The state of Dr. B.=EF=BF=BDs mind is excellent and not = an appropriate=20 issue for you to use. In my opinion, Dr. B.=EF=BF=BDs physical and = mental health is far=20 superior to most anyone associated with UTSA. The age issue is not at = your=20 disposal. He is old. But he functions better professional than most do = at half=20 his age. He calls people above, around and below him to task when they = are wrong=20 or out of line. His supervisors might misinterpret this behavior as = arrogance=20 rather than his demand for profession excellence in us all. Common sense = and due=20 process should compel you to state that these issues are the basis for = your=20 actions in this matter. You have not done so. If they are off the table = then=20 Manuel P. Berrioz=EF=BF=BDbal should be reinstated immediately. =

You are in the process of destroying PREP. This = will be your=20 legacy in this community and elsewhere.

I spent my career as a mathematics professor. Much = of that=20 career was under the leadership of an autocratic, tough president that I = personally did not like. But I respected him because he was fair and = most of all=20 he had integrity. Those qualities are absent from your administration. = Again you=20 may not know of these things but it is paramount in your position that = you do=20 know. It is your watch.

Dr. Manuel P. Berrioz=EF=BF=BDbal is a good man. = He deserves better=20 from you!

Have a Nice Day,
